Welcome to Acorn Books

I'M STILL HERE!

Welcome to the home page of Acorn Books in MI.  I closed the storefront at 15 Mile & Ryan in Sterling Heights in August, 2006 after fifteen years.  Now, I just deal on-line and by appointment. I still buy books selectively and will come out to your house if you live in the Detroit area and I'm interested in your books.  At this point, I mainly look for collections (many books on a narrow subject), collectible books and antiquarian books. I'm also interested in collections of paper (ephemera, pamphlets, old catalogs, programs, menus, select magazines, older newspapers, etc.).

COLLECTIBLE BOOK SEMINAR

How much is that old book worth? Is that novel from the 1950s a first edition? Do you want to buy a book from a catalog description, but don't understand the abbreviations and terminology such as a.e.g. or quarto? Which books are likely to hold their values and what type of collection is likely to be worth more than the sum of its parts? Which reference books are essential to a book collector?

This seminar over, but another will be starting in February 2012 or March 2012Contact me if you are interested, so I can send you the details when everything is finalized (delayed from September 2011, so it can be part of the Book Club of Detroit schedule).

APPRAISALS

While I have always offered written appraisals for insurance, estate and tax purposes, now that the shop has closed and my time is more flexible, this service has become an increasing part of my business.  Please contact me at info@acornbooksinmi.com if you are interested in knowing more about this service.

Of course, if you are interested in selling books, I do not charge to make an offer for your books.

ROYAL OAK FLEA MARKET

I am currently selling at the Royal Oak Antique & Collectible Flea Market to reduce the inventory I have in storage units (mostly books under $12 at bargain prices) and also to highlight recent acquisitions (collectible books at reasonable prices).  Come out and visit me.

I am scheduled to display there on the following Sundays:

I'll be along the east side of the center aisle this time (near the middle of the market).  Five tables of hardcovers and paperbacks, from antiquarian books to much more recent books, fiction and nonfiction, something for everyone!  A lot of NEW acquisitions for the NEW year!!!  I will also have some prints with me.

"Like" my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AcornBooks for a $3.00 OFF coupon good for anything at my booth!!!

Plus, there will be other dealers there selling books --and books are only one choice among all the dealers selling various antiques and collectibles.  You never know what will turn up!  It's a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday.  Here's a video about the market!
