Welcome to Acorn Books

UP and RUNNING

(The Transition Period is Over)

Welcome to the home page of Acorn Books in MI.  I closed the storefront at 15 Mile & Ryan in Sterling Heights in August, 2006 after fifteen years.  Now, I just deal on-line and by appointment. I still buy books selectively and will come out to your house if you live in the Detroit area and I'm interested in your books.  At this point, I mainly look for collections (many books on a narrow subject), collectible books and antiquarian books. I'm also interested in collections of paper (ephemera, pamphlets, old catalogs, programs, menus, select magazines, older newspapers, etc.).

ROYAL OAK MARKET

I am currently selling at the Royal Oak Antique & Collectible Flea Market to reduce the inventory I have in storage units (mostly books under $12 at bargain prices) and also to highlight recent acquisitions (collectible books at reasonable prices).  Come out and visit me.  I am scheduled to display there on the following dates:

Confirmed Upcoming Dates

-Sunday June 28, 2009.  I won't have a wall booth this time.  Look for me on the other side of the same aisle.

-Sunday July 12, 2009.  I will have an entire 10-table wall booth this time.  Twice as much space / twice as many books!

Tentative Upcoming Dates

-Sunday July 26, 2009.

-Sunday August 9, 2009

-Sunday August 23, 2009

- Sunday September 6, 2009

Highlights for the June 28th Royal Oak Market

3.  Eight first edition small press mysteries published by Crippen & Landru.  All are trade paperbacks that are still in their original shrinkwrap.

2.  There will be some new fanzines this time (new to my booth, not recent publications --most of these were published in the 1970's and 1980's).  There will also be some fanzines returning from last time (on subjects such as H.P. Lovecraft, pulp, science fiction, supernatural fiction, westerns and television) --most at reduced prices.

1.   I'll be bringing more recent Advanced Reading Copies most from 2009 --some not even published yet!  Most priced at $7 or $3.  In addition to the new ARCs, the ones I had at the last show will be reduced will be reduced from $5 to $3 and $2 to $1.  What a deal!

Advance Reading Copies are trade paperbacks that are published especially for book reviewers, buyers for the major chains and other promotional purposes (booking radio interviews, etc.). They are published in much smaller printings than the first edition and come out prior to the first edition ("firster than a first edition"). With new authors, they are often the author's first appearance in book form. The ones I have are mostly from 2008 and 2009 --including a few that are for books that haven't been published yet (JULY and AUGUST 2009 releases)! They are very reasonably priced with most priced $5 or less (often much less!).  These can gain in value as a new author gains stature and involve some speculation --though they are also a way to be the "first kid on the block" to read a new author or even a way to economize and get the book for less when the new hardcover is going for over $25.  - Search this website for many recent and some older Advance Copies that are currently in my database.  Many are in my Contemporary Fiction catalog --cataloged books will not be brought to the R.O. Market unless you request that I bring a certain book(s).

More June 28th highlights coming soon!

And, of course, I'll have some of the books that were at the last show (though, many will be marked down again).  Yes, I'm really trying to move books --I'd like to clear out two of my four storage units.  Bargains will abound!
